Belarusian Energy and Environmental Forum

    The Football Arena hosted the official opening ceremony of the 26th Belarusian Energy and Environmental Forum.

    The opening ceremony was attended by:
    Victor Karankevich – Minister of Energy of the Republic of Belarus, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Forum,
    Vitaly Kretsky – Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus, Director of the Energy Efficiency Department,
    Alexander Korbut – First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Forum,
    Sergei Shlychkov – Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology,
    Irina Starovoitova – First Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus,
    Grigory Bondarev – director of CJSC Technics and Communications, deputy chairman of the organizing committee of the forum.

    The Minister of Energy of the Republic of Belarus, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Forum Viktor Karankevich stressed that the experience and production potential accumulated in the industry, the modernization of energy system facilities carried out thanks to the support of the Head of State make it possible to quickly respond to external challenges, consolidate efforts and available resources to solve the most important task of strengthening energy self-sufficiency and energy security of Belarus. Despite the difficult conditions, the country’s energy system operates stably, provides uninterrupted and reliable energy supply to consumers in the real sector of the economy and the population.

    According to him, the forum has traditionally brought together leading companies and organizations in the field of energy, industry and ecology. The exhibition presents their best achievements and developments. Many of them affect the sphere of digitalization and automation of technological processes. The business program provides for the discussion of the most relevant issues for the energy complex, the key of which is the development of the industry in the face of sanctions and external restrictions.

    “Joint discussion of ways to achieve this task with the participation of representatives of government bodies, the scientific and expert community will contribute to the development of specific proposals and practical recommendations aimed at improving the efficiency of the energy industry in the new conditions,” summed up the head of the Ministry of Energy.


    First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Deputy Chairman of the organizing committee of the forum Alexander Korbut expressed hope that the forum would find an integrated approach that is necessary for the development of energy and the conservation of natural resources in Belarus. “We want to live in a beautiful green world where the proper quality of air and water is ensured, the use of natural resources does not come at the expense of our future generations. I hope that within the framework of the business meeting we will be able to assess the opportunities that exist in the world, as well as share the developments in environmental legislation that are currently available in the Republic of Belarus,” Alexander Korbut noted.


    First Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus Irina Starovoitova expressed the opinion that over the 25 years of its existence, the forum has become a platform where the best developments of domestic manufacturers are presented and international experience is demonstrated. “There is a dialogue here, which results in new ideas, innovative approaches, including in the education system,” she said. According to her, within the framework of the forum, it is planned to work a round table on the issues of advanced training and retraining of engineering personnel. “There are 158 specialties in the country that train engineering personnel. It is very important to implement the tasks of practice orientation and interaction with personnel customers, and the new challenges faced by the education system, among other things, allow us to say that we need all new innovative solutions and new methods of our joint work,” concluded Irina Starovoitova.


    Sergey Shlychkov, Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology, drew attention to the fact that the exhibition demonstrates many innovative solutions. “It’s all about the small things – the introduction of energy-efficient technologies in real life,” he stressed.


    Deputy Chairman of the State Standard – Director of the Energy Efficiency Department Vitaly Kretsky noted that the development of Belarus through energy saving, the use of local fuel and energy resources is today an objective necessity and one of the priority areas for strengthening economic security. The Republic of Belarus has been pursuing a consistent state policy in the field of energy saving for 30 years. Through best practices and innovative developments, an effective system has been created that has made it possible to reduce the energy intensity of GDP by 2.1 times compared to the level of 2000. “At the same time, we understand that we need to continue to work on reducing unit costs for the production of industrial products,” Vitaly Kretsky noted.

    The opening ceremony ended with the approach of officials to the press.

    As the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Karankevich said, answering the questions of journalists, the industry is implementing comprehensive measures for import substitution. “The possibilities of energy system organizations and industrial enterprises of the country are used to the maximum to replace a number of equipment, individual spare parts, assemblies and components of imported production with Belarusian ones, including using such a new method as reengineering,” he said. “The main task for the energy complex is the commissioning of the second power unit of the BelNPP. The construction of peak-backup energy sources continues with the installation of highly maneuverable generating equipment with a total capacity of 800 MW. Work is being carried out at four large power plants – Berezovskaya and Lukomlskaya GRES, Novopolotsk CHPP and Minsk CHPP-5,” the minister said.
